Notes on building products and companies, and on the software that people and their AI agents use together.

  1. Your expertise should be visible in the work

AI can help everyone produce a polished issue. Experience should show in what we investigate, what we prioritize, and what we decide to do next.

  2. The code works. The user is still stuck.

AI can help build working software. Great UX still takes judgment about what people need, what they understand, and where they get stuck.

  3. What you leave behind is part of the work

Finishing your part can still leave someone else with a problem. Ownership includes leaving enough context for the next person to carry the work forward.

  4. From plugins to agents: the new WordPress architecture

WordPress quietly gave plugins a new way to work with AI. Register once, and every door opens.

  5. Ship before it feels complete. AI changed the math, not the rule.

Shipping early was never a license to ship junk. Now that a first version takes days instead of months, the bar moves toward working, not toward perfect.

  6. Coding is the easy part now. Knowing what's worth building isn't.

AI made building faster and cheaper than ever. It didn't create demand, distribution, or a reason for anyone to care.

  7. Clear thinking is the prompt: why a good brief beats magic words

Why the way you brief an AI shapes what comes back, and why saying please to your coding agent helps for a practical reason.

  8. Your IQ got you here. Your EQ decides whether you stay.

AI is getting very good at the thinking work that used to set people apart. What decides whether anyone follows you is something else.
